Odyne ships hybrid trucks

Odyne Systems LLC, a hybrid drive system manufacturer in Waukesha, has made seven hybrid system trucks that are being distributed throughout the state through the Wisconsin Clean Transportation Program.
Milwaukee County received four trucks to maintain signals and street lighting, the first hybrid trucks the county has put in service. They will be used to switch the county’s lighting to more efficient LED lights.
Also, Marshfield, Richland Center and Lake Mills have received trucks with Odyne hybrid systems for their utility work.
Odyne has also supplied Commonwealth Edison Company in Illinois with its first digger derrick that runs on a plug-in hybrid propulsion system.
The system will save ComEd up to 50 percent on fuel costs while reducing emissions and noise at work sites, according to Odyne.
ComEd received $4 million in federal stimulus funding for alternative fuel projects, which partially funded the hybrid digger derrick. The City of Chicago also contributed $1.5 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding.
