Marquette University announced that after a national search, David Murphy has been named vice president for marketing and communication, effective July 1.
Murphy had been serving as interim vice president for marketing and communication since November 2012, in addition to his role as senior director of brand marketing. As vice president, Murphy will be charged with leading Marquetteโs branding, marketing and communication initiatives aimed at achieving positive marketplace impact in academic reputation, enrollment, fundraising and alumni relations.
โFor the past eight months as interim vice president, Dave has successfully led the Office of Marketing and Communication during major university milestones, including the development and endorsement of a new university-wide strategic plan,โ said Father Scott Pilarz, president of Marquette. โThis seamless transition will allow us to continue our positive momentum around high-level university initiatives and constituent communications without missing a beat.โ
Since joining Marquette in 2008, Murphy has led the development, alignment and growth of Marquetteโs brand strategies, brand architecture and external positioning in the marketplace as senior director of brand marketing. He has overseen Marquetteโs print, digital and broadcast branding initiatives, including amplifying and expanding the universityโs communications platforms and growing Marquetteโs video capabilities to connect with current and potential students.
โIโm thrilled to have the opportunity to lead a team of skilled, creative and dedicated marketing and communication professionals as we work to elevate Marquetteโs reputation worldwide,โ Murphy said. He brings more than 30 years of experience in the fields of marketing and advertising to his new role.
Previously, Murphy served as executive creative director and partner at Versant, a marketing and communications firm in Milwaukee.
