Marshall Goldsmith, best-selling author and nationally recognized executive coach, will speak at the Leadership Summit hosted by the Midwest Business Brokers and Intermediaries Wisconsin Chapter on April 30.
The event will be held from 11:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the BMO Institute for Learning, 395 N. Executive Drive in Brookfield. The focus is to assist members in successfully completing more transactions.
Goldsmith will discuss the strategies he gives leaders in his new book, “What Got You Here Won’t Get You There.”
Change is constant in life, and people are constantly being recreated by the environment around them, Goldsmith said.
He plans to discuss not only how employers can engage employees, but also how employees can interface with their environment to maximize their effectiveness.
“The difference isn’t what’s on the outside, it’s what’s on the inside,” Goldsmith said. “So I came to the concentration of teaching people to be responsible for their own engagement.”
Goldsmith will also discuss the delusions people are operating under and how to defeat them. The delusions include the idea that today is special, that the person you are when you’re planning is the same as the person you are while executing the plan, that you will be supported by those around you and that we have plenty of time to get things done.
“Although I get paid to help people be better executives, the reality is, in general, it helps them just be better people,” he said.
Aleta Norris, partner at Impact Consulting Group LLC and Living as a Leader, will also give a talk, “Seven Common Mistakes Leaders Make.” According to Norris, mistakes can become costly because of their impact on productivity, employee satisfaction and, ultimately, retention of emerging talent.
The event will include lunch and a networking reception. Cost is $45 for members and $89 for non-members before April 12 and then $55 for members and $99 for non-members.
