Milwaukee County Treasurer Dan Diliberti is asking for the assistance of county residents to help locate the owners of more than $2 million in unclaimed funds.

โ€œThe Treasurerโ€™s Office has the job of finding the rightful owners and getting the money back to them,โ€ Diliberti said. โ€œThe $2 million in unclaimed funds is a lot of money, and it belongs to the people who, in these difficult times, could use the money to help make ends meet. We are continuing to explore new ways to reach potential claimants with information about these unclaimed funds, and could use the help of Milwaukee County citizens to find them. โ€œ

To find out about who is entitled to this unclaimed money, people can access information about the names and amounts on the County Treasurerโ€™s web site at www.county.milwaukee.gov. Enter โ€œunclaimed fundsโ€ in the site search field and follow the instructions for viewing the list, download and file a claim form.

In addition, a printed copy of the 2013 listing and forms to file claims for the money will be available at the Ready Reference section of all public libraries in Milwaukee County, as well as in the Treasurerโ€™s Office, Room 102 of the Courthouse, 901 N. 9th St. Claim forms must be submitted to the Treasurerโ€™s Office.

โ€œWe are making every effort to get the word out to the general public about these funds,โ€ said Diliberti. โ€œOur goal is to return this money to its rightful owners.
