Glendale-based Johnson Controls Inc. is supplying its advanced lithium-ion batteries for the 2014 Hybrid Range Rover. Production of the cells and complete battery systems is underway at Johnson Controls’ manufacturing facility in Holland, Mich.
Hybrid batteries are a part of the company’s full-spectrum of energy storage solutions for vehicles to help automakers meet increasing regulations for fuel efficiency and emission reductions across their fleets.
“As the first company in the world to produce lithium-ion batteries for mass production hybrid vehicles, we are excited to work with Jaguar Land Rover,” said Lisa Bahash, vice president and general manager of the Original Equipment Group for Johnson Controls Power Solutions.
The Hybrid Range Rover vehicles are being made at Land Rover’s advanced manufacturing center in Solihull, England.
Johnson Controls Power Solutions supplies approximately 140 million automotive batteries every year to automakers and aftermarket retailers. The company’s full range of lead acid and lithium-ion battery technology powers nearly every type of vehicle for customers, including conventional, Start-Stop, Micro Hybrid, hybrid and electric.
In other Johnson Controls news, the company has been named a “Top Employer” in China for the fourth consecutive year. The honor comes from the Top Employers Institute, which certifies excellence in conditions companies create for their employees.
In its independent research assessment, the Top Employers Institute noted “exceptional employee conditions and culture, learning and development that spans all levels of the organization and a commitment to continuously improving employment practices at Johnson Controls.”

Johnson Controls recently started construction on a second global headquarters to be located in Shanghai that will open in 2017. The company said it will be a symbol of the company’s commitment to a strong industry leadership position in China and the rest of Asia.
Since 1991, the Top Employers Institute has evaluated organizations through a comprehensive audit of the human resources environment, including dimensions such as strategy, policy implementation, monitoring and employee development. Individual company results are then rated against an international standard. Johnson Controls is one of 50 companies selected as a “Top Employer” in China for 2015.
