The Milwaukee County Purple Heart Pass Program gave away more than 350 passes to wounded veterans throughout Wisconsin during its inaugural year.

The program, launched in 2013 by Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele and the Milwaukee County Veterans Service Office, distributes passes to grant veterans free admission into several private and public venues throughout the region and state.

“There is no way we can ever repay military veterans for their service and sacrifice, but this pass is a small way to thank them for their dedication,” Abele said.

Area venues participating in the program include the Harley-Davidson Museum, Discovery World and the Milwaukee County Zoo. Each pass is worth more than $200.

Any veteran in the state who has been awarded a Purple Heart decoration can obtain a pass.
