Milwaukee-based Pak Technologies Inc. recently purchased a 94,000-square-foot industrial building at 7025 W. Marcia Road, Milwaukee, in the Granville Woods Business Park, from 3M Touch Systems Inc. for $2.525 million.
The new facility will become Pak Technologies’ headquarters and will also house its food packaging division, according to Kevin Schuele, CEO. The company will move by Feb. 1 from its current 40,000-square-foot building at 2730 W. Silver Spring Road, he said.
“That’s a very aggressive plan but that’s what we want to get accomplished,” he said. “We have a lot more work today and want to expand our food side of the business.”
Pak Technologies has about 60 employees today. In the next four to five months, it will add about 20 more employees, while it greatly increases automation in its new facility.
“We just outgrew the current facility,” Schuele said. “We are in a growth mode. We’ve been blessed. We have three pretty big contracts coming up in the first quarter of 2010.”
Pak Technologies is a contract manufacturer specializing in blending, packaging and distribution. Schuele also owns a majority share in King Research Inc., which makes Barbicide, a disinfectant used in the salon industry, and several other products. Barbicide and other King Research products are produced in a Pak Technologies facility on Milwaukee’s north side.
“We’re poised in enough disciplines that as companies have shrunk and still need to produce things, we are picking up the pieces,” Schuele said.
Pak Technologies also has operations on the west side of the former Tower Automotive property in Milwaukee and at North 80th Street and Good Hope Road. Those operations will not be affected by the new headquarters, Schuele said.
After it makes the move, Pak Technologies will sell its current headquarters building, Schuele said. The property has an assessed value of $694,000, according to city records.
