The Madre Angela Dental Clinic is moving to a new, larger clinic that opens today at 1730 S. 13th St., Milwaukee, with the new name St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Dental Clinic.
The Madre Angela Dental Clinic is moving from 1309 S. Cesar E. Chavez Dr., Milwaukee, to a new, larger clinic that opens today at 1730 S. 13th St., Milwaukee, with the new name St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Dental Clinic.
For 10 years, the clinic, supported by Columbia St. Mary’s Health System, has provided high-quality free and low-cost dental services to disadvantaged people in Milwaukee.
The clinic served more than 4,500 patients last year; approximately 1,500 at the clinic and 3,000 children in the community through its Smart Smiles School-based Oral Health Program.
At 5,000 square feet, the new clinic is 40-percent larger than the old clinic.
“We will continue to work with urgent care patients and do all the other work we did including the Smart Smiles preventative care program, but we can now expand our work with children who need referrals for dental work, “said Bill Solberg, Columbia St. Mary’s director of community services. The expansion will also help to ensure that the clinic will be positioned to address the growing dental needs of the community well into the future.
Renovation of the 13th Street location began with a grant from the Daughters of Charity Mission and Ministry Fund for $422,000 and a matching grant of $422,000 from the State of Wisconsin Oral Health Access Program. Additional fundraising is continuing to complete the work that is being done.
The clinic was named after St. Elizabeth Ann Seton as she was the foundress of the Daughters of Charity in the United States.
An open house of the new St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Dental Clinic is scheduled for Feb. 18 at 4 p.m.
