What started out three years ago with two fledgling partners working off of a card table and using their cell phones is now an established roofing and consulting business with 22 employees and a fleet of seven service trucks.
In 2006, Dave Velcheck was approached by a former employer who was interested in selling his business. Having worked on several jobs with Patrick Finger in the past, Velcheck asked Finger to come along with him to investigate the potential opportunity. While Velcheck was not looking for a partner, the pair ultimately joined forces in March 2006 to launch Velcheck & Finger Roof Consulting & Service in Pewaukee.
“We provide high value and integrity in what we do, and it more or less separates us from the crowd,” says Velcheck. “We are not out there to have you replace your roof. With substantial roofs come significant investments, and if you can maintain them and stay on them, you can save a lot of money down the road.”
The company’s major customers include Kohl’s Corp., Roundy’s Supermarkets Inc., The Marcus Corp., Quad/Graphics Inc. and Harley-Davison Inc., as well as a good number of area school districts.
Several months ago, Velcheck & Finger moved into larger quarters.
Before they joined forces, Velcheck worked as an owner’s rep for an engineering firm, and Finger worked as a roofing contractor with 30 years of experience.
“We worked together on several projects, and we recognized we had common interests in our ways of doing business,” Velcheck says. “Pat is 12 years older than I am, and we have very different personalities, but we are there for the same goal.”
