Foreclosures in the state and southeastern Wisconsin region spiked in September. The state had 2,021 foreclosures in the month, up from 1,848 in August and up compared to 1,778 in September of 2007, according to ForeclosuresWI.com.
"Wisconsin foreclosures have been building up to the current levels for the past three years," said Robert Jansen, president of ForeclosuresWI.com. "While new foreclosure filings appear to be leveling off, monthly filings remain over double what they were just five years ago."
Milwaukee County was the only county in southeastern Wisconsin that had fewer foreclosures in September (463) compared with September of 2007 (502) and August of 2008 (468). But year-to-date Milwaukee County has 4,496 foreclosures, compared to 3,819 in the first nine months of 2007.
The seven other southeastern Wisconsin counties had foreclosure increases in September compared to September of 2007 and compared to August of 2008. The eight county area had 917 foreclosures in September, up 10 percent compared to 834 foreclosures in September of 2007 and up 12.2 percent compared to 817 foreclosures in August.
