Paul W. Nannis has been named vice president for Aurora Health Care’s newly expanded Department of Government and Community Relations.
Nannis has been with Aurora since June 2001, when he was named interim director of the Center for Urban Population Health, a joint program of Aurora, the University of Wisconsin Medical School and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee to improve community health. In addition, he has served as a special adviser for public health issues at Aurora.
"The new position offers an opportunity to continue building on the many community partnerships that Aurora has established over the years and enables me to work closely with local leaders to ensure that we continue setting the standard for quality, access and service," Nannis said.
From 1998 to 2001 Nannis was director of the office of planning, evaluation and legislation for the Health Resources and Services Administration, a $6 billion agency within the federal Department of Health and Human Services in Washington D.C. He was responsible for directing efforts to ensure that the agency effectively spent its annual budget.
From 1988 to 1998 Nannis was the Cit of Milwaukee’s health commissioner, developing health policy and implementing a variety of community health programs. In addition, he directed two short-term projects, from late-1995 to early-1996, at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Nannis’s work at the Foundation focused on developing two national programs to address areas of public health and urban health.
