The Abbey Springs Golf Course in the village of Fontana-on-Geneva Lake in Walworth County announced that it is planning a $2.5 million renovation.
The renovation project will begin on Aug. 2 and is expected to be complete by April 30, 2022. The course will be closed during the project.
The work will be led by Marengo, Illinois-based Lohmann Quitno Golf Course Architects. The scope of the project will include reconstruction of 16 green complexes, including greenside features and bunkers, resurfacing three greens, installing fairway drainage on 15 holes, regrading and expanding ponds on five holes, increasing quality and size of water retention areas, rebuilding 10 fairway bunkers, regrading five fairways and redesigning the short game area.
“The renovation project is aimed at transforming the course into an ascendant and premier top-caliber golfing destination,” Abbey Springs said in a news release.
The golf course is part of Abbey Springs, a semi-private gated community located on the south shore of Geneva Lake. Property owners of Abbey Springs approved the renovation project through a vote earlier this month.
The golf course was originally designed by Killian & Nugent in 1971. No significant renovations have taken place since then.
