The Wisconsin Athletic Club opened its newest club Monday in the former University of Phoenix building along Interstate 94 in the Town of Brookfield. The WAC purchased the building, originally built as a movie theater, in late 2015 for $3.6 million.
The 60,000-square-foot facility is the largest athletic club in the WAC chain and is located at 20075 Water Tower Blvd., across the freeway from The Corners of Brookfield, a mixed-use development that is expected to open in spring 2017.
The club features five swimming pools including a children’s pool and an outdoor and deck. The new location replaces the WAC’s Waukesha club at 1530 E. Moreland Blvd.
The Wisconsin Athletic Club was started 40 years ago in West Allis. It is locally owned by business partners Keith Nygren, Ray O’Connor, Chez Misko and Keith Mardak.
“The WAC has always been much more than a place to work out,” Nygren said. “We want to continue to be that ‘home away from home’ as we have been since our beginning in 1976.”
The WAC’s other locations are in West Allis, Greenfield, Wauwatosa, downtown Milwaukee, Glendale and Menomonee Falls.
