The city of West Allis may buy the St. Aloysius Church and related buildings southwest of West Greenfield Avenue and South 92nd Street.
Its interest in doing so is to foster redevelopment of the site and grow the city's tax base.
The Community Development Authority of the City of West Allis
this evening will decide whether to try to acquire the property, located at 1414 S. 93rd St. and 1405-1441 S. 92nd St., for no more than $925,000.
The 3-acre property includes three buildings, said Patrick Schloss, West Allis community development manager: A church, rectory and school building.
The buildings total 96,100 square feet, with the largest being the 78,745-square-foot school building, according to
marketing information from Colliers International.
Schloss said the buildings are in a good location, especially due to their proximity to the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center, which is only about 2 miles away.
"We think it might lend itself well to future housing," he said.
The St. Aloysius Church campus is one of three West Allis Catholic church properties listed for sale.
Schloss said the buildings are for sale because Archdiocese of Milwaukee is looking to consolidate. A representative of the Archdiocese did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
