The Robert W. Monk Gardens has begun construction on a building that will make the site more useful to visitors even as it is planting more gardens and becoming more of a Wausau landmark.
A new 2,000-square-foot shelter will be the garden’s first major structure, said Jim Force, a member of the board of directors that oversees the site. The building, called a “Potager,” which is French for a small-kitchen area serving a garden, is slated to be up and running by fall and will be equipped with restrooms, a storage area, a kitchen and a seating area, he said. It will be used for classes, events and as a general common space.
