The Volunteer Center of Milwaukee has extended the participation deadline for this year’s Holiday Giving Tree to Wednesday, Nov. 10.
The Volunteer Center of Milwaukee, a service of the Nonprofit Center of Milwaukee has extended the participation deadline for this year's Holiday Giving Tree to Wednesday, Nov. 10. The Holiday Giving Tree program is dedicated to providing gifts for seniors, teens and children in the community who wouldn't otherwise get them.
"We are aiming at providing 13,000 gifts this holiday season and right now we're at around 12,300," said Bonnie Andrews Volunteer Center manager. "There are so many people out there that won't get a gift this holiday season unless we achieve our goal."
Interested organizations are asked to estimate the number of gifts they can purchase and complete a participation form. A minimum of ten tags must be taken and large organizations willing to provide more than that are extremely beneficial to the cause, Andrews said. Gifts range from small toys, to personal hygiene products, clothing and other essentials.
Organizations will be connected to area nonprofits who have collected gift information from people they serve.
"A lot of times the gifts go to children but sometimes it's for older adults or people with disabilities that are sometimes the forgotten people who just love some attention over the holidays," Andrews said. "It's not just buying a gift, you also learn a lot more about people in the community and what their needs are. It's really a great opportunity to learn something more, and the more we know about one another creates a better community to live, work and play in."
The Volunteer Center is in the process of issuing gift wishes now. According to Andrew, those who sign up will still have plenty of time to shop for the gifts and make arrangements for the designated nonprofit organization to pick them up. To get involved in The Giving Tree program visit:
