The United Community Center will honor a lineup of area leaders who have significantly contributed to the development and well-being of the community during its 44th Anniversary Celebration on Friday, May 2.
The UCC, a social service agency that offers programming related to education, cultural arts, health and human services and more to south side residents, will present selected individuals with the Friends of the Hispanic Community Awards.
This year’s honorees are Ellen Bartel, the first president of Divine Savior Holy Angels High School; Patricia Hoben, founder and head of school of Carmen High School of Science & Technology; Jeff Joerres, chairman and CEO of ManpowerGroup; and Tim Sullivan, president of the Bucyrus Foundation and former president and CEO of Bucyrus International, Inc.
Additionally, the UCC and Badger Mutual Insurance Company will recognize a group of accomplished students, whose photos and biographies will be added to the Badger Mutual Wall of Fame at the UCC’s Community Learning Center. Selected students are Ivana Guerrero of Bruce-Guadalupe Community School, Alexandra Guadalupe Perez-Luevano of Divine Savior Holy Angels High School, Karla Rodriguez of Brookfield Academy, Marianna Tellez of the Latino Arts Strings Program, and Christian Villanueva of Marquette University.
The anniversary dinner on May 2 will take place in Bruce-Guadalupe Community School’s Ted Friedlander Gymnasium, 1028 S. 9th St. in Milwaukee. The sold-out celebration, held to highlight UCC successes and acknowledge its community supporters, will include performances by the Latino Arts Strings Program and Bruce-Guadalupe Community School Jazz Band.
