The Master Lock Company is laying off 61 employees at its Milwaukee facility located at 2600 N. 32nd St., Milwaukee, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification notice recently filed with the state.
The padlock and security products manufacturer indicated that the layoffs were related to its decision to outsource its maintenance operations to Illinois-based Advanced Technology Services.
By outsourcing its maintenance workforce, Master Lock expects to cut costs while increasing the efficiency of its operations, said a spokesperson for Fortune Brands Home & Security, the holding company for The Master Lock Company.
"Our Milwaukee maintenance workforce is highly skilled, and we expect many will join ATS and continue to serve at the Master Lock location," a spokesperson said.
Master Lock did not specify how many of the laid off employees would be offered a job with ATS, to work at the Master Lock location.
"We have provided a transition window of 2.5 months to the maintenance associates in addition to a generous separation package, and we are committed to helping associates connect with new opportunities," a spokesperson said.
The 61 employees being laid off are represented by United Auto Workers Local 469. The layoffs are expected to begin March 20, 2021, according to the notice.
