Early stage prep work has begun to renovate and expand a building in the former Pabst brewery complex for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Public Health.
The 33,000-square-foot building will be renovated and a 23,000-square-foot addition will be added onto it.
The early preparation work will include environmental remediation and other steps to prepare the building for major renovation work and the construction of the addition. The major renovation and construction work is expected to begin in May, said John Kersey, president of The Brewery Project LLC.
The Brewery Project was started by Zilber Ltd. founder Joseph Zilber to redevelop the former brewery complex into a mixed-use urban neighborhood. Zilber contributed $10 million to the UWM School of Public Health project.
“We are very excited to begin the preparation work for the development of the School of Public Health,” Kersey said. “Though this is just a small step in what will be a significant project, it represents the culmination of years of effort by many individuals, both within and outside of the UWM community to bring this project to fruition.”
