The City of Racine recently received a $196,000 Economic Development Initiative grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The grant will be used by the city’s Redevelopment Authority to purchase and renovate buildings in the Uptown commercial area. Uptown is located on Washington Avenue between Phillips Avenue and 10th Street. The area is the western gateway to Racine’s downtown, lakefront, and several corporate headquarters.

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett will lead a groundbreaking ceremony at 11 a.m. today at 2217 N. 6th Street (one block south of North Ave) to kick-off construction of new homes in the Bronzeville neighborhood. Future Bronzeville homeowner Tara Ali and her family will be joined by the community to launch construction of one of 20 new homes to be built in Bronzeville. Ali’s new home will be located just a few blocks away from her job at the new Manpower Inc. corporate headquarters.
