Other than the obvious health benefits, how has being fit improved your life?
"It has helped my self confidence, image and overall feeling of well being. Even though I’m 52, I have not noticed much of a decline in my energy levels or physical capabilities. I also believe that another benefit is that I’m very rarely sick and when you are sick you are focused on yourself rather than focusing on others. In regards to being a role model for my children and employees it is a matter of practicing what you preach."

How does personal fitness affect your work life?
"I’m able to work at a very high energy level for extended periods of time. It certainly also provides a vehicle to release the stress of business life. The discipline also tranfers over to work which enables me to stay focused and on task. I’m more relaxed which helps with my interaction with employees and customers."

Do you have a corporate health or wellness initiative?
"No."

How does fitness or wellness affect your overall organization?
"We don’t have a corporate fitness or wellness program, but I do know that many of our employees are actively involved in sports, running and fitness."

What advice do you have for other executives interested in starting either a personal fitness plan or corporate wellness initiative?
"Start by setting a goal and a time frame for reaching that goal along with a visit with their physican. Then find a personal trainer that they are comfortable working with to help them get started and to assist in monitoring their progress. Sticking to a program is the hardest part, so if they need to find a friend or class that will get them to the gym or on the road."
