Notable Women in Sports: Amanda Braun

Class of 2024

Amanda Braun is the first female to hold the position of director of athletics at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

“Amanda has created a culture of a singular purpose – providing student-athletes the best collegiate athletics experience, allowing them to excel academically and to compete for championships,” said Phyllis King, vice provost at UW-Milwaukee.

Braun was named the NCAA Division I Nike Executive of the Year by Women Leaders in College Sports in 2023, and she was named to the board of directors and council position of the Horizon League in 2021. She became the first woman to serve as chair of the council since the league redesigned its governance structure in 2017. She currently serves on the Division I Women’s Basketball Committee, helping select women’s NCAA Tournament teams. Braun also was named Under Armour AD of the Year in 2020.

“A true collaborator and teammate, Amanda leads with persistence, positivity and keeping in mind the big picture that while few student-athletes will move on to play professionally, they will move into a profession and career,” said Fred Tabak, founder of Tabak Law LLC.
