Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett recently invited the public to submit nominations for the 11th annual Mayor’s Urban Design Awards. The awards are presented "in recognition of exceptional spaces and places that make Milwaukee a lively, engaging city." The deadline for submitting nominations is Feb. 5.
Over the past decade174 projects have been recognized with a Mayor’s Urban Design Award.
The projects have included new construction, renovations, landscaping and signage.
Last year Barrett added new categories for consideration, to represent the city’s emphasis on green design and conversion of underused properties into attractive additions to neighborhoods.
"I invite the people of Milwaukee to really take inventory of the great things that are happening in our city," Barrett said. "The Urban Design Awards presents a perfect opportunity to recognize the investment and innovation that we’re seeing in neighborhoods across the city. With each nomination, we’re celebrating another change that makes Milwaukee an exciting place to attract businesses, visitors and residents."
Previous winners have included Discovery World at Pier Wisconsin, Toussaint Square at 3401-3433 W. North Ave, Annona Bistro at 2643 S. Kinnickinnic Ave. and Soche/Gee’s Clippers II at 2213-2215 N. King Dr.
