Next Door to open new school at former Northwestern General Hospital site

Next Door Foundation, Inc., a Milwaukee-based nonprofit early childhood education center, will kick off the school year on Tuesday at its new location, 5310 W. Capitol Drive.

More than 400 preschool students will begin their school year in the 103,000-square-foot building, which was previously the Northwestern General Hospital building.

Next Door purchased the site last year, after a decade of vacancy, and completed the first stage of renovations this past spring.

“When we open the door to our beautiful new site on Capitol Drive, we will be opening the door to school readiness for hundreds of more children in our city,” said Carol Keintz, executive director of the organization. “We are proud to be a prominent part of this neighborhood and hope to serve many more children for years to come – providing quality early education that we know is so crucial at this stage of their young lives.”

The organization, which serves another 700 kids at its other locations in Milwaukee, plans to celebrate the opening of its new school during a Sept. 18 event, when it will unveil plans for phase two of the renovation.

During the event,” Get Ready to Celebrate,” the organization will also toast its 45th anniversary.
