Illinois-based Kraft Pizza Company’s DiGiorno brand pizza hosted a contest earlier this year, asking people to vote for their favorite city to host a DiGiorno Pizza Tweetup. Milwaukee was the winner of that contest and will host the @DiGiornopizza Party Thursday, Oct. 22, at Stack’d Burger Bar, 170 S First St., Milwaukee, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Between July 15 and Aug. 15, @DiGiornoPizza asked people on Twitter throughout the United States to vote for their favorite city to host a DiGiorno-sponsored Tweetup and a
chance to sample DiGiorno Crispy Flatbread Pizza. Milwaukee’s own Tweetup Girls will host the Tweetup in conjunction with DiGiorno.
"Michelle and I wanted to get involved simply because we like connecting people, and thought this would be a fun and social way to do that," said Jeanette Pham, Tweetup Girl and vice president of Germantown-based Corporate Identity Solutions.
According to Pham, the Tweetup Girls had been planning an upcoming Tweetup with a charity cause surrounding it and approached DiGiorno when Milwaukee was selected to add in that aspect.
"Kraft Foods has a strong relationship with Feeding America," Pham said. "And so we decided collectively that incorporating that charity aspect would be a good idea. Guests can help out by bringing nonperishable food items, so while DiGiorno is feeding us free pizza, we can give back by feeding our community as well."
The event is open to all Milwaukee residents, free pizza will be provided and guests are encouraged to bring a food item to donate to Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin. DiGiorno will match the donations at $5 per item up to $1,000. Twitter tutors also will be available for those who have questions.
