DOT to build new train shed at Milwaukee Intermodal Station

The state Department of Transportation plans to build a new 50,000-square-foot train shed facility at the Milwaukee Intermodal Station at 433 W. Saint Paul Ave. in downtown Milwaukee.
The station is used by Amtrak trains and Greyhound and other regional bus services.
A $17 million renovation project, completed in 2007, expanded and upgraded the building. But that project did not include the train shed, located to the south of the building, which where the trains are kept and provides shelter for passengers boarded and disembarking from the trains.
The DOT says the new train shed will be 121 feet wide, 400 feet long, and 56 feet high. It will include a partial mezzanine spanning five tracks, three boarding platforms, stairways, escalators, elevators, ventilation systems, lighting and signage.
The project will bring the facility into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, the DOT says.
A public meeting on the project will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 24, at the Intermodal Station.
