Dohmen makes three acquisitions

Menomonee Falls-based Dohmen Co. today announced it has acquired three technology companies: Milwaukee-based Red Arrow Labs, Milwaukee-based Clinical Path Consulting and Raleigh, N.C.-based ChemWare.

The companies will add applications development, data analytics, consulting services and hosting capabilities to Dohmen’s suite of health care services.

“Our life science and healthcare clients are increasingly interested in using technology to connect with and empower healthcare consumers; in particular, through the growing use of analytics and mobile applications,” said Cynthia LaConte, chief executive officer of Dohmen. “We wanted to bring valuable new skills to our clients, and these companies will do that. Red Arrow designs and develops unique applications, Clinical Path Consulting provides regulatory and IT advisory services to healthcare providers, and ChemWare offers critical information management solutions to the laboratory market. But we also wanted to find that new capability rooted in a common culture; one that operates from a place of purpose and trust.”

Mark Grosskopf, who founded two of the companies and serves as president of all three, will remain in his position and also become chief information officer of Dohmen Life Science Services.

DLSS is a new biopharma and medtech brand Dohmen Co. plans to launch in March, said Carole Pfeil, senior vice president of marketing communications at Dohmen. It will include BioSoteria, Centric Health Resources, DDN, MedComm Solutions, Reglera and Dohmen brands, and focus on medical devices, technologies surrounding tissue, stem cells and cord blood and rare disease-treating drugs.

“We’ve got a lot of brands with great equity in the marketplace and we wanted to create a powerful new brand in the marketplace without disrupting the current brand equity that we have in our existing division,” Pfeil said.

Red Arrow, Clinical Path and ChemWare will all retain their locations and employees, she said.

“There is no plan at this point to fold them in,” she said. “We are going to use their existing capabilities for DLSS but at this point they are serving as standalone companies.”

The company will have about 625 employees following the acquisitions. Dohmen previously reported it had 550 employees in the U.S.

The companies did not disclose the terms of the transaction.

Dohmen announced last month that it will move its headquarters to a $10 million, 42,141-square-foot building at 417 E. Chicago St. in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward.

LaConte said the firm will move 110 employees from Menomonee Falls to the Third Ward building during the third quarter of 2014.
