Beacon Health, a Mequon-based provider of information and publications for the home care and hospice industry, has been acquired by HCPro Inc., a Maryland provider of information, services and products to health care providers. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Beacon Health has 15 employees and is a business to business publisher and educator for the home health care industry, specializing in Medicare and other regulatory compliance, said Diane Omdalh, who co-founded it with her husband Richard Omdahl.
The acquisition was about two years in the making, as the Omdahls are approaching retirement age but wanted to see their company continue under its own name and maintain its office in Mequon.
"This (sale to HCPro) is the best opportunity for us," Diane Omdahl said. "It will carry on the name. We’ve spent 21 years doing this and we’ve built up quite a following."
HCPro is a portfolio company of Halyard Capital, a New York-based private equity firm with more than $600 million capital under management. Several of Beacon Health’s key managers, including the Omdals, have been retained by HCPro, said Bruce Gozowski, HCPro’s chief executive officer.
"We are privileged to continue Beacon Health’s legacy of providing insight for homecare compliance and management to its customers," he said. Beacon Health’s editorial and marketing team will continue to work in Mequon.
The couple had bids for Beacon Health from several other firms that would have closed its Mequon office and laid off its work force, Richard Omdahl said. For more information about Beacon Health, visit www.beaconhealth.org.
