After an eight month search, Alverno College has selected a new president.
Andrea Lee, president of St. Catherine University, a Catholic liberal arts university in Minnesota, will succeed Alverno President Mary Meehan in June.
“What a joy and honor it will be to lead the college to its next heights of academic distinction and to advance Alverno’s fine reputation as a vital member of the Milwaukee community,” Lee said in a statement released today.
Meehan has led Alverno since 2004 and announced she would be stepping down on March 16, 2015.
“We are incredibly proud to have a leader of this caliber to take Alverno College into the future,” said Don Layden, chair of the Alverno College Board of Trustees and chair of the presidential search committee.
Lee has been president of St. Catherine for almost 20 years. During her tenure, university enrollment increased 30 percent, according to the statement.
Alverno College is a four-year Catholic liberal arts college for women located on the southwest side of Milwaukee.
