Allen Leverett leaving WEC Energy board

Stepped down from his executive position while on medical leave but had remained on the board

Former WEC Energy Group Inc. chief executive officer Allen Leverett has resigned from the company’s board of directors for personal reasons, the Milwaukee-based utility said in a security filing.

The filing did not provide any other details regarding Leverett’s resignation.

Leverett was named president and CEO of the company in May 2016 but suffered a stroke in October 2017. He stepped down from his executive position after a year on medical leave but remained on the company’s board.

Gale Klappa, Leverett’s predecessor as CEO, returned to the role in 2017 on an interim basis. Earlier this year, the company created a new leadership team with Klappa as executive chairman, Kevin Fletcher as CEO, Scott Lauber as CFO and Rick Kuester as senior executive vice president.

As part of its director succession process, WEC Energy named Maria Green to its board. Green is the retired senior vice president and general counsel of Ingersoll-Rand plc.
