A Keane eye

Tim Keane has been interested in photography for quite some time. But he didn’t seriously get into it until about 2006 and now regularly shoots and archives his work on a website.

“Photography has always interested me,” Keane said. “One day I decided to buy a camera and see what the digital world had to offer.”

Keane is the director of the Golden Angels network, an entrepreneur in residence at Marquette University and is also a partner at Keane D’Souza Venture Capital.

Keane initially took a couple of photography classes and learned about light and light patterns as well as photo composition and capturing a unique perspective. He began shooting mostly landscapes, particularly around his vacation home in Arizona.

“I find the Arizona landscape interesting,” he said. “I’ve also done the typical famous landmarks and technically that’s very cool until you realize that people now have 38,000 versions of the same photograph. Those shots are more about technical execution. I like looking harder and rejecting the common stuff. While I’m not sure I’ve accomplished any of that, it is a lot of fun.”

Keane has shot a variety of urban landscapes in addition to some Arizona ones but has also experimented with panoramic views, still objects and natural shots.

In addition to his passion for photography, Keane is also an instrument rated twin engine pilot and for a long period of time also played the bagpipes. That may sound like an eclectic mix of hobbies, but Keane says they all have something in common.

“They all focus your mind,” he said. “You can’t be a good pilot and be flying all over the sky thinking about something else. You certainly can’t play the bagpipes without paying attention, and photography is the same way. I like it because it tends to get me to focus on something, to focus on the view, the composition through the lens. When I’m taking pictures I’m doing that. Not anything else.”
