United Way hosts IT career fair

Fair to expose high school students to tech jobs

The United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County is hosting it’s fourth-annual career fair for high school students interested in technology careers on Tuesday, April 12, at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Student Union.

The fair will be run through the United Way’s IT United program and is open to more than 150 students who participate in United Way funded programs.

Gallagher and Young are charging United Way's mission at the local and international level.

“The IT United Career fair is one way to directly engage students to show them that careers in information technology are both accessible and attainable,” said United Way IT United staff member Jessica Wagner Schultz.

Each student attendee will be teamed up with a student from UWM’s School of Information Studies and interact with different technologies from companies such as San Francisco-based OKTA, Arizona-based OneNeck IT Solutions, Pewaukee-based Skyline Technologies and the Milwaukee Brewers.

Company representatives will also lead discussions with the students about project management, application development, IT security, analytics, statistics, social media and web and mobile development.

“United Way’s IT United members are information technology professionals who have a desire to make a difference in our community through contributions, advocacy and volunteerism,” Wagner Schultz said. “IT United’s student technology engagement programs assist in Milwaukee Public School’s work-based learning continuum by providing opportunities for students to engage with technology careers outside of school.”

The fair will run from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the UWM Student Union at 2200 E. Kenwood Blvd.
