In his latest campaign ad, Scott Walker goes after Tom Barrett over the city’s radio system for first responders with a spot featuring Dave Seager of the Milwaukee Firefighters Union and Mark Buetow of the Milwaukee Police Association.
Following the release of the ad, the Wisconsin Professional Fire Fighters and Wisconsin Professional Police Association sent out statements backing Barrett and calling the ad a distortion.
In the spot, Mark Buetow of the Milwaukee Police Association says if "our radios fail us, no one is safe."
Dave Seager of the Milwaukee Firefighters Union Seager follows by saying they’ve been told for six years their radio system would be fixed.
"Mayor Barrett," Buetow says.
"Are you there?" Seager follows.
"We get seconds."
"You’ve had years."
Wisconsin Professional Police Association executive director Jim Palmer called the ad “desperate fear mongering.” “Tom Barrett has been a strong and consistent supporter of public safety services, and of protecting those dedicated men and women who serve to provide them,” Palmer said.
Barrett and Walker will meet in their final debate next Friday, Oct. 29, in a forum organized by the We the People/Wisconsin media coalition that includes WisPolitics.com.
