Milwaukee YMCA to run camps, swim lessons at county sites

The YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee has established a new partnership with Milwaukee County’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture in order to continue facilitating its swim lessons and summer day camps.

While working to emerge from bankruptcy in January, the nonprofit approached the DPRC about partnering on some of its program offerings, according to a statement from the county.

After selling many of its area properties in order to pay down its more than $30 million debt, the Milwaukee YMCA has sought use of the Sports Complex, the Blatz Pavilion in Lincoln Park and the Wilson Park Pavilion for its day camps.

The organization’s camps will run on weekdays, and the reserved sites will continue to be available for the public to rent on weekends.

The Milwaukee YMCA will also hold swim lessons four days a week for nine weeks at Jackson, Washington, and Sheridan pools as well as Schultz Aquatic Center in Lincoln Park and Pelican Cove in Kosciuszko Park.
