Blizzard Lighting fixtures on set of NFC Championship game

The product of a Waukesha-based manufacturer was a part of the FOX Sports NFC Championship telecast on Sunday. Made by Blizzard Lighting LLC, four of the BLOCKHEAD professional moving head LED matrix light fixtures were used on the pregame and halftime set.

The programmable professional LED light fixtures, which feature 25 red, blue and white LEDs in the fixture head as well as unlimited rotation on two axes, are capable of displaying low-resolution animated content, patterns, static colors and beam effects.

For the telecast, Blizzard collaborated with Fond du Lac-based ModTruss, which constructs on-location sets for many sports telecasts, including FOX.

“Seeing our BLOCKHEAD fixtures in action for the NFC Championship is the culmination of a lot of hard work from many people both on our team and from ModTruss,” said Will Komassa, president of Blizzard Lighting. “Having the fixtures and the Packers both there, it doesn’t get much better.”

According to Komassa, Fox chose to use the BLOCKHEAD because of its size, weight and visual appeal.

“FOX Sports wanted to, in their words, ‘bling things up a little bit’ for the game, but we were also aware that we didn’t have a large amount of space to work with on the set,” Komassa said. “BLOCKHEAD’s compact size, flexibility and built-in bag of visual tricks make it the perfect product to give their coverage the flash they are looking for.”
