The Moderne, a 30-story tower at the southwest corner of Juneau Avenue and Old World Third Street, is the latest addition to the downtown Milwaukee skyline.
The $55 million building was developed by Rick Barrett, founder of Milwaukee-based Barrett Visionary Development. The building has 203 apartments and 14 condominiums. Next year a Carson’s Prime Steaks and Famous BBQ restaurant will open in the first floor.
Construction of the building was substantially completed recently, but finishing touches are still being completed. The first residents have moved into the building and 20 to 30 of the apartments have been leased so far, Barrett said.
Financing for the project included a $42 million loan from the AFL-CIO Investment Trust, which was backed by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s 221(d)4 loan guarantee program. The city of Milwaukee also provided a $9.3 million loan for the project.
The building was designed by Milwaukee-based Rinka Chung Architecture. The construction manager for the project was J.H. Findorff & Son Inc.
This week BizTimes Milwaukee took a tour of the building. Watch the video tour by clicking here.
