Chicago-area home prices skid to nearly 12-year low

A closely watched index fell in February for the sixth straight month, hitting its lowest level since May 2000.

The Standard & Poor’s Case-Shiller index of Chicago-area single-family home prices fell 2.5 percent from January to February and was down 6.9 percent from the year-earlier level, according to a report released Tuesday.

The local price level had not been lower since May 2000, according to S&P Case-Shiller data.
