Bier Stube, traveling beer garden open this week

Von Rothenburg Bier Stube will hold a three-day celebration beginning Friday for the opening of its Biergarten.

The German-themed Germantown bar and restaurant was reopened by Chaz Hastings in February 2013. An abbreviated biergarten opened late last summer, but the new iteration will have an expanded menu and summer beer selection, and almost double the capacity.

The celebration will include live music, souvenir beer boots and food and drink specials. Bier Stube is located at N116W15863 Main St. in Germantown.

“Over the past few months we have been working diligently to prepare for the grand opening of the biergarten,” said Josh Neureuther, general manager of Von Rothenburg Bier Stube. “In addition to expanding the biergarten itself, we have been importing special summer beers, preparing our new menu and securing entertainment for the Biergarten Opening Celebration. It’s going to be an authentic, German summer celebration the likes of which southern Wisconsin has never seen.”

Also this week, Milwaukee County Parks and Glendale-based Sprecher Brewing Co. opened the new traveling beer garden.

The mobile operation will make its way to six different county parks in July and August, and will be at each park for two weeks. The traveling beer garden has a tap trailer and concessions stand that serves Sprecher beers and sodas, Hard Root Beer, Hard Ginger Beer, cocktails and root beer floats.

The traveling beer garden opened on Wednesday at the Root River Parkway South Picnic Area, at South 92nd Street and West College Avenue. It will be open from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends at the Root River location until June 15, when it travels to McKinley Marina.
