Go Ape Ltd., a ropes course operator based in the United Kingdom with its U.S. headquarters in Silver Spring, Md., wants to create one of its “treetop adventure courses” in Milwaukee County’s Whitnall Park, according to a memo from Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture Director John Dargle Jr. to Supervisor Gerry Broderick, who chairs the County Board’s Parks, Energy and Environment Committee. The committee will review the proposal on April 15.
The Milwaukee County Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture issued a request for proposal in November seeking an operator interested in creating an adventure ropes course. Go Ape responded with its proposal for Whitnall Park.
The course would be set up near the Ross Lodge, a former farm house at 6750 S. 92nd St. in Greendale that is available to rent for group meetings or for overnight rentals by civic or church youth groups. The lodge is located across the street from the parking lot for the Whitnall Park Golf Course.
According to its website, all of Go Ape’s courses are located in public parks. The courses consist of treetop ostacles, zip lines and “tarzan” swings.
Go Ape is the largest ropes course operator in the world with 28 courses in the U.K. and 6 in the U.S., according to Dargle’s memo.
