Eau Claire one of the nation’s most affordable housing markets

Eau Claire is the 10th most affordable housing market in the nation, according to Parsippany, N.J.-based Coldwell Banker Real Estate LLC‘s 2008 Annual Home Price Comparison Index.

Comparing the cost of four-bedroom 2,200-square-foot homes in 315 U.S. markets, eight of the 10 most expensive markets are in California. The most expensive market is La Jolla, Calif., where a 2,200-square-foot home costs $1.84 million, according to the index.

The most affordable market was in Sioux City, Iowa, where a 2,200-square-foot homes costs $133,459, according to the index. The same home costs $147,300 in Eau Claire, the 10th most affordable market.

The Milwaukee market is the most expensive in Wisconsin. A 2,200-square-foot home here costs $374,825, according to the index.

In other major markets, according to the index, the cost of a 2,200-square-foot home is: San Francisco ($1.5 million), Boston ($1.49 million), Chicago ($863,300), Philadelphia ($511,750), Dallas ($326,425), Atlanta ($314,333), New Orleans ($306,900), Kansas City ($229,000), Nashville ($239,500), Des Moines ($236,875), Oklahoma City ($165,000).

The cost of a 2,200-square-foot home in other Wisconsin markets, according to the index, is: Madison ($300,000), Green Bay ($212,400), Fond du Lac ($216,400), Appleton ($189,400), Wausau ($177,120) and Eau Claire ($147,300).
