A long vacant former Sentry grocery store building in Sheboygan will finally get two new tenants, a Gold’s Gym health club and The Bar, a sports bar operated by a Green Bay company.
The building, located at 725 S. Taylor Drive and owned by Escondido, Calif.-based Realty Income Corp., has been vacant since 2000 when Sentry closed, after being open for less than a year.
"We’re really happy that someone has decided to operate their business in a building that has been empty for so long," said Steve Sokolowski, manager of planning and zoning for the City of Sheboygan.
Irving, Texas-based Gold’s Gym International Inc. plans to open a 40,000-square-foot health club in the eastern portion of the building, where it will hire 45 to 60 employees. Gold’s Gym opened its first location in 1965 in Venice, Calif. Today, Gold’s Gym has more than 600 locations in 25 countries, including two in Appleton and one in Eau Claire.
The Bar plans to open an 11,000-square-foot bar and restaurant in the western portion of the building, where it will hire about 50 employees. The Bar has six locations, two in Appleton, two in Green Bay, one in Oshkosh and one in Rothschild, near Wausau. The Bar’s menu includes burgers, pizza, sandwiches and wings.
