Colliers Barry is planning to build a new office building for its headquarters along the Park East corridor.
Colliers Barry owns a 0.7-acre property along the Milwaukee River and across the street from its current office at 1232 N. Edison St. The company has created conceptual plans for a four-story 100,000-square-foot building on the site.
The building would likely have retail space on the first floor and office or a mix of office and residential on the upper floors.
The company would move its office into the new building and occupy about 10,000 square feet of space. Its current building would be demolished and replaced by a mixed-use building, which would include a large parking structure to provide parking for the building along the river.
The project is on hold for now, as Colliers Barry executives are waiting to see how the rest of the Park East corridor develops.
“Right now, we are in kind of a wait-and-see mode,” said James T. Barry III, chief executive officer of Colliers Barry. “We’d like to see how the rest of the area is developing.”
Several projects have been approved in the Park East corridor, but most have not begun construction yet. However, Manpower Inc. is building its new corporate headquarters just north of the corridor, and that should provide a boost to the area.
“All of the signs are very positive signs, which will continue to enhance the possibilities for the site,” Barry III said.
Colliers Barry also is seeking an anchor tenant to occupy 30,000 to 40,000 square feet of office space.
“We’ve talked to a couple of potential anchor tenants,” said Barry III, who declined to name the potential tenants
