Century Fence was the first manufacturer of chain link fence in Wisconsin and also pioneered the “c-section” post in the 1970s, now fundamental in the fencing industry.
The company has completed many high profile fencing projects in the Midwest. All of the fencing at Miller Park, the Marquette Interchange, within the Mall of America and at Wisconsin’s correctional facilities were completed by Century Fence.
While high-profile fencing jobs have garnered Century Fence a lot of recognition for its work, the company is also responsible for much of the pavement stripping projects across Wisconsin and the rest of the Midwest, Connell said.
The economy has taken its toll on many contracting companies, but Century Fence has remained successful.
According to Connell, when the economy dips, new construction activity slows along with the fencing projects associated with new construction. When fencing activity is down, pavement stripping tends to go up, Connell said.
While Century Fence has completed projects all over the country, the company still remains dedicated to projects in the Midwest, Connell said.
Promoting from within has also proven beneficial for Century Fence. Both Connell and the current vice president of the company started at low level labor jobs and have worked up the ranks to leadership positions in the company.
“Promoting from within encourages a buy-in culture,” Connell said. “Someone who has been there awhile knows how the company functions.”
