The Historic Third Ward’s newest apartment building is scheduled to open in spring 2017.
The Broadway Market Lofts, 325 N. Broadway, will feature eight two bedroom units ranging in size from 1,150 to 1,425-square feet and four, 875-square-foot one-bedroom units. There are also two, 2,000-square-foot penthouse apartments that have 1,000-square-foot outdoor verandas overlooking the city.
First floor retail will feature between one and three tenants, said Lindsey Bortner, leasing manager, of Milwaukee View, LLC.
Bortner expects to announce tenants for the property soon.
“We have a few things in the works and the response has been great,” she said. “We are very open to anything. There are a lot of great restaurants in the Third Ward, but another restaurant would be great. Smaller shops would be fun as well.”
Bortner’s father, Lindsey Bovinet, purchased the buildings at 325-327 N. Broadway in 2013 from The Jennaro Bros.
For decades, fruit and vegetable wholesales, like the Jennaro Bros., were located in the Third Ward. The Jennaro Bros. moved to 4050 N. Port Washington Road on Milwaukee’s north side in 2005.
In April 2015, Bovinet, chairman of Third Ward-based design firm Interior Systems Inc., bought a third Jennaro Bros. building at 331 N. Broadway, and began construction of Broadway Market Lofts.
Across the street at 322 N. Broadway, Milwaukee developer Robert Joseph, is redeveloping another former Jennaro Bros. building into office space and first floor retail.
Bortner said Joseph’s project is a welcome addition to the block.
“This block already has great restaurants and boutiques,” Bortner said. “The Third Ward area is booming. Everyone developing around us will only help complete it.”
