Concordia University Wisconsin announced it has received a $50,000 donation from Walgreens to support the purchase of video and technology equipment in the new Applied Patient Care Laboratory of Concordia’s School of Pharmacy.
In a letter sent to the Mequon-based college, Walgreens recognized the significant contribution the School of Pharmacy makes in fostering the education development of future leaders, according to Curt Gielow, executive dean of the School of Pharmacy.
“This gift from Walgreens demonstrates the company’s continued commitment to the education of new pharmacists who have training focused on pharmacist-patient interactions,” Gielow said. “This equipment gives us the latest technology in preparing students for this enhanced professional role.”
Rural and underserved urban communities across Wisconsin are facing a shortage of inpatient and outpatient pharmacists, according to Gielow. CUW’s School of Pharmacy, which began in 2010, is now only the second pharmacy school in the state of Wisconsin and is helping to fill the need for pharmacists.
