Third Ward Kimpton hotel to break ground by end of year

San Francisco-based Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants announced today that construction will begin by the end of the year on the 158-room boutique hotel that it will open at the northeast corner of Broadway and Chicago Street in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward neighborhood.

Project architect Doug Nysse appeared before the Third Ward’s Architectural Review Board today to present some minor design changes planned for the project.

The nine-story hotel will have a destination restaurant on the ground floor, a fitness center and an expansive rooftop bar and lounge area. The hotel will have 7,000 square feet of meeting and event space.

A project office and model hotel room is under construction in a 4,900-square-foot space at 311 E. Chicago St., just across the street from the site planned for the hotel.

The hotel is expected to open in 2016. Milwaukee-based HKS Holdings LLC is the developer for the project.

“We’re excited to break ground in Milwaukee and start building what’s sure to be a landmark property for this artistic and creative neighborhood,” said Kimpton CEO Mike Depatie. “With its huge rooftop deck and lounge area and the unique, locally inspired design plans, we’re confident the hotel will bring something very special to the city.”
