Beginning April 1, the state will enact new regulations that will make it more difficult for poor people to receive public assistance for food.
Sherri Tussler, executive director of the Hunger Task Force in Milwaukee, expects the more punitive regulations to create a food shortage and a steep rise in the number of people turning to food pantries for assistance. Ironically, the changes also will cost the state more money, Tussler said.
