Marcus Theatres appoints Gourley vice president of film

Marcus Theatres, a division of the Milwaukee-based Marcus Corporation, has named Samuel “Sonny” Gourley vice president of film, the company announced Wednesday.

A nearly 40-year veteran of the film industry, Gourley comes to Marcus Theatres from AMC Entertainment, Inc. He has worked for AMC Entertainment for more than 37 years and most recently served as president of film programming. He also worked as executive vice president of film marketing and as head film buyer on a national scope.

“His industry stature, extensive knowledge gained through his long career as film buyer for AMC and the relationships he’s established will be a valuable asset for Marcus Theatres,” said Marcus Theatres President Bruce Olson.

Gourley lives in Los Angeles and will work for Marcus Theatres from the West Coast.

“Being in the heart of Hollywood with his finger on the pulse of the industry, Sonny will provide invaluable insights and contributions to the continued growth and success of Marcus Theaters,” said Paul Silk, senior vice president of film at Marcus Theatres. “His expertise and key relationships with the leading film production studios will further strengthen our film-booking team.”

Gourley’s career in the film industry has also included participation on Variety – The Children’s Charity Advisory Board and the Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation Board of Directors. He has been honored with induction into the ShowEast Hall of Fame, was recognized as the ShowEast Humanitarian of the Year in 2009, and is a recipient of the Variety Club – The Children’s Charity Heart of Show Business Award 2012 among other awards.
