Layton Boulevards West Neighbors, a nonprofit that focuses on revitalizing Silver City, Burnham Park and Layton Park on Milwaukee’s south side, will host its Executive Breakfast for local neighbors and business owners on March 10.
The breakfast will feature music, food and a four-person panel of neighborhood business owners and volunteers who will discuss issues facing the area and revitalization ideas.
“The focus as it’s been in years past is a community conversation,” said LBWN spokesperson Beth Lee. “The theme this year is making connections for a strong neighborhood.”
Included on the panel will be Santana Tenhover, co-owner of Bamboo restaurant in the Silver City neighborhood, who will share her story of immigrating from Laos and working in the Milwaukee restaurant industry with the goal of eventually opening her own place. She will tell attendees what her journey looked like, why she chose to open her restaurant in Silver City, and what kind of impact small businesses can make in the community.
“We hope that this event does inspire any neighbor or existing business owner to think about, ‘what are my dreams, what are my hopes for Silver City, Burnham Park and Layton Park?'” Lee said.
The breakfast is from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. in the Sister Joel Read Center at Alverno College on 3400 S. 43rd St. People interested in attending can register through Feb. 24.
