A Dollar General store is being proposed for a vacant lot near the southwest corner of North 76th Street and West Florist Avenue on Milwaukee’s northwest side.
The store would be constructed on a 0.5-acre lot at 5925 N. 76th St., according to an application filed with the city by The Overland Group LLC. The store would sit toward the southern end of the roughly half-acre lot, while a 17-stall parking lot would be at the north end with access from the side street, West Bobolink Place.
If built, the Dollar General would be situated along an existing commercial area with single-family homes to the west. Across West Bobolink to the north is a restaurant, and a convenience store neighbors the lot to the south. Across North 76th Street is a shopping center, with tenants including beauty salons, restaurants and a convenience store.
“The proposed development will enhance the property, and in addition have a positive impact on the surrounding area,” the applicants wrote in a submission to the city.
The proposal is to be considered in February by the Board of Zoning Appeals.
A representative of The Overland Group declined to comment on the proposal. A spokeswoman for Dollar General did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Dollar General has more than 15,000 stores in 44 states, according to the application. The stores carry a wide variety of items, including food, health and beauty aids, cleaning supplies and housewares.
